About Us

Picture a polished wooden floor, a mirror ball throwing flecks of light across the walls, and a crowd circling the rink to a disco record that seems to go on forever. That is the room our tees are cut for. At https://flowerchildrentee.com we sell women's ringer tees and baby tees, and as an independent online store based in Seymour, Connecticut, we ship every order from here to addresses across the United States.

Skate Night Rules

Toward the end of the seventies, roller rinks all over the country turned their lights down, hung a mirror ball, and became discos on wheels. Skate night had a look of its own. Shorts sat high on the waist, tube socks were pulled up to the knee, and on top there was almost always a tee, either a ringer with a band of color at the neck and sleeves or a short, close-fitting baby tee.

Those two shirts were not an accident. A skater's arms are busy the whole time they are on the floor. They swing out for balance on the straightaway, cross over on the turns, and go straight up when the chorus hits. A shirt that rides up, twists at the shoulders, or drags the collar sideways has to be fixed by hand, and a hand that is fixing a shirt is a hand that is not helping you stay upright.

That gives us the rule we stock by: a tee has to stay where you put it for a whole song, and then for the next one. Our name looks back to the flower children of the late sixties. Our shirts look a decade later, to the rink, where that same easy, unfussy way of dressing picked up some speed.

Room to Swing, or Nothing to Catch

The ringer is for the skater who moves loose. It has a little room through the body and the arms, so a wide swing never pulls the hem out of a waistband. The contrasting band at the collar and each sleeve outlines the shoulders under low rink lights, which is a big part of its appeal on a dim floor. Tuck it into high-waisted shorts, or knot it at the hip if you would rather nothing hang below the waistband.

The baby tee is for the skater who wants everything close. It is cut short and fitted, with a small sleeve, and it is meant to end right at a high waistband. There is no extra fabric to tuck and nothing to flap around when you pick up speed. Worn with shorts or flares, it keeps the waist visible and gives the whole outfit that long line from shoulder to skate.

Neither one has to stay at the rink. The ringer that kept its shape through a couples skate goes just as well with jeans or a denim skirt on a Saturday afternoon, and the baby tee that sat close under low lights does the same job with a pair of flares on any ordinary day.

Checked as Though It Were Going Around the Rink

Before a tee is packed, we look at the places that give way first when arms are moving. The neck band gets a gentle stretch and has to settle back flat, without rolling or waving. The shoulder seams have to run straight and even, since that is where a swinging arm pulls hardest. Each sleeve band is checked for twist, because a band that sits a few degrees off shows the moment the arm goes up.

On ringers we also look along the seam where the band meets the body. A two-color shirt can sometimes show a faint shadow of the darker color on the lighter fabric beside it, and a tee with that shadow does not go out. On baby tees we compare the length with the measurement in the listing, because on a shirt meant to land at the waistband, half an inch decides whether it stays put.

Then the tee is folded with the collar on top, so the band keeps its shape in transit, and packed for the trip from Connecticut to your door.
